Elvis fans know that the King of Rock N’ Roll was a religious man. “I believe in the Bible. I believe that all good things come from God. I don’t believe I’d sing the way I do if God hadn’t wanted me to,” Elvis once said. Raised in a very religious family, music and Christianity always shared a link for Elvis.

Elvis’s daughter, Lisa Marie Presley, revealed that gospel was “no doubt” Elvis’s favorite genre of music. “He seemed to be at his most passionate and at peace while singing gospel,” she said.

During a February 1977 concert in Montgomery, Alabama, Elvis surprised both his band and the audience by performing a gospel song. It was the only time Elvis performed “Where No One Stands Alone” during a concert, and the performance remains just as powerful now as it was back then.
Check out the video below to see this incredible performance in action:
Mark Macias, who wrote the play The King: The Final Hours, said, “Elvis was a great artist and singer because he knew how to go deep into his spirit and connect with a higher power. Personally, I think he learned that in church as a boy and it never left him.” May the King rest in peace; I hope he was able to find the solace and calm he was ultimately not able to experience during the later years of his life.
