General description of the bull terrier breed

The bull terrier is the result of crossing a bulldog and a terrier, this breed was established at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries in England. This animal was mainly used for dog fights. People also exterminated rodents with it. Today bull terriers are good companions for many families. They are very intelligent dogs, they can show tenderness to their guardians. When training stubborn bull terriers by nature, we must show great consistency and commitment. After all, they are sustainable animals, and with proper training, they can be raised into great, devoted dogs. Bull Terriers are very energetic. They like all kinds of activities.

Due to their size, these dogs can be classified as medium breeds. Their hair is short and rough to the touch, and does not require any particularly complicated care treatments. As a rule, they are hardy animals, but you need to take care of their health, because they are susceptible to certain diseases, including lens dislocation, cystic kidney disease, torso dermatitis after sun exposure, aortic stenosis, laryngeal irritation.

Bull terrier – appearance

Bull terriers usually measure from 45 to 50 cm, weigh from 20 to 35 kg. They have a short back and a wide chest. They are characterized by a clearly ovoid head; they are massive. Their chest is wide and their neck is quite muscular. They have small eyes and protruding triangular ears. The tail of the bull terriers is short, set horizontally. Dogs of this breed can have different colors:

  • white, may appear with dark patches on the head;
  • black;
  • Red;
  • fawn;
  • tricolor.

The presence of stripes is desirable on the colored coat. The colored coat may be combined with the white coat if the white coat is clearly less. It is worth adding that there is also a miniature bull terrier, its model height is 35.5 cm at the withers.

The true character of bull terriers

Bull Terriers are very happy dogs. You cannot deny them their vigor, they are energetic and always ready to play. They love to play outdoors. They are happy to hug each other. They also have a lot of fun being with their guardians. They don’t like being left alone for long periods, but they can be taught to do so.

It is worth mentioning that the bull terrier is a real smart. He is intelligent and stubborn – a determined guardian is able to raise him to be a wonderful dog. Can be affectionate and patient, especially when dealing with children. The games should be carried out under the strict control of an adult, because the bull terrier may inadvertently push the child. Dogs of this breed are bursting with energy, so they can be hyperactive. Their menacing appearance can confuse, currently they are not aggressive towards people. Other animals are rather distant. It should be remembered that only the provoked can attack. As a rule, it is a well-balanced dog that mainly bark when it senses a threat. You have to invent new activities for him because he gets bored quickly. However, you shouldn’t overdo it – it must also be able to calm down. Too many stimuli can negatively affect him.
